S3 Cost Cutting Playbook

1. Enable S3 Intelligent Tiering

   This lets you keep the same data but pay less over time as objects age and are accessed less.

2. Use CloudFront for heavy data‑out traffic

   If you're spending a lot on data transfer out through a web application, front your content with Amazon CloudFront. Caching at the edge can drastically reduce S3 egress costs and improve performance.

3. Retain most data until Glacier costs dominate

   You can think about deleting data, but until Glacier and Deep Archive make up a significant part of your storage cost, it's usually better to keep most of it around. This avoids data-loss risk while still capturing the bulk of cost savings.
